昭和20年3月19日。「剣部隊」こと第343海軍航空隊の初陣である「松山空戦」が終結した。初陣ながら物量に勝る米軍相手に、勝利と言っていい戦果を上げ、部隊の士気は高まっていく。だが、戦争のせいで人間から人の心が失われていく光景を目にした戦闘三〇一隊長の菅野直にとって、「松山空戦」は戦争の恐怖を初めて知った戦いでもあった。
